Questions & answers

Can I dictate without signing into a Microsoft or Google account?

Dicta needs no account at all to use, trial included. Buying needs exactly one thing: an e-mail address for a passwordless magic-link sign-in.

Can I get AI voice typing on Windows without a Copilot+ PC?

Windows' AI-cleaned Fluid Dictation needs a Copilot+ PC with an NPU. Dicta's Windows client (in development) is built to skip that requirement entirely.

Can I transcribe a lecture with no WiFi?

Yes. Dicta transcribes recorded lectures entirely on-device, with no word cap, so dead WiFi in a lecture hall or on a train doesn't change anything.

How is Dicta different from cloud dictation tools like Aqua Voice or superwhisper?

Dicta runs speech recognition and AI rewriting entirely on-device. Most competitors process at least the AI rewrite step in the cloud, and require an account.

Is Dicta really offline?

Yes. Speech recognition, corrections and AI rewriting all run on-device. The few network calls Dicta makes never carry your audio or text.

Is dictation software GDPR-compliant?

It depends on where the audio goes. Cloud dictation creates a processor relationship under GDPR. Dicta processes voice and text on-device, so none of it reaches us.

Is there a dictation app with no word or usage limit?

Cloud dictation apps commonly cap free tiers at a few thousand words and meter usage because every word costs them cloud inference. Dicta has none, at any tier.

What data does a dictation app send?

Cloud dictation apps upload your audio (or text) to a server to transcribe and rewrite it. Dicta doesn't: the whole pipeline runs on your Mac.

What's the best dictation app for an 8GB MacBook?

Apple's own on-device AI dictation needs 12 GB of unified memory. Dicta needs about 1.5 GB and runs full local AI dictation on 8GB Apple Silicon Macs.

What's the best dictation software for German?

Dicta is tuned and benchmarked for German and English specifically, on top of automatic detection across 25 languages, all running on-device.
