Is Dicta really offline?

Yes. After a one-time model download you can pull the Wi-Fi plug and Dicta keeps transcribing, correcting, and rewriting. There is no audio upload path in the app. The only network calls it ever makes are listed on the Privacy page, and none of them carry your voice or your text.

Does it work in every app?

If there is a text field, Dicta types into it. Editors, browsers, terminals, chat apps, mail. It pastes at your cursor and leaves your clipboard exactly as you left it.

Which languages does it handle?

Most dictation apps treat German as an afterthought: one of a hundred locales. Dicta is tuned and benchmarked for German and English first, and understands 23 more languages, auto-detected per dictation with no setting to flip.

What are the system requirements?

Dicta launches on Mac, Windows and iPhone together, so it depends on the device. On Mac: macOS 26 or later on any Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), 8 GB of RAM, and about 600 MB of disk for the on-device models (Parakeet plus the vocabulary booster). On Windows: any ordinary Windows 11 PC, no Copilot+ NPU required. On iPhone: iOS 26 or later, installed as a keyboard. Dicta needs microphone and accessibility permissions, because it types where your cursor is. After the one-time model download it runs fully offline.

Does Dicta run on Windows?

At launch, yes. Dicta launches on Mac, Windows and iPhone together, one license across all three. The Windows app is a native Windows 11 build (no Electron) running the same fully on-device pipeline, including the AI rewrite, on any ordinary PC with no Copilot+ NPU required. It is in active development right now, launching alongside the Mac and iPhone apps. Other offline dictation apps already exist on Windows, so our angle is native and local always (no cloud mode exists), not being the only option. Does Dicta work on iPhone?

At launch, yes. On iPhone, Dicta is a keyboard: install it once and you can dictate into any app, the same hit-a-key, talk, clean-text-lands flow you get on the desktop. It stays local-first like the rest of Dicta, and it launches together with the Mac and Windows apps under one license. iPhone hardware is tighter than a Mac, so the on-device models are tuned to fit the phone; the promise that your voice and text never leave the device is exactly the same. It needs iOS 26 or later.

What data does Dicta send?

None of your content. No audio, no transcripts, no text. Dicta has no account and no cloud to sign into. The full list of network calls it makes is on the Privacy page.

Is there a word or usage limit?

No. Dicta runs on your own hardware, so there is no meter, no per-word cost, and no monthly cap. Talk as much as you like.

How is it different from Aqua Voice or superwhisper?

Aqua Voice runs its AI in the cloud. superwhisper can run locally, but defaults to cloud modes and needs an account. Dicta is local, always: there is no cloud mode at all.
